核能利弊 演讲比赛演讲稿

Nuclear Power: Blessing or Disaster to Humankind

Good morning, everyone! At the moment, I’m filled with nervousness, because this might be the first time that I stand in front of so many people to give you a speech, I am feeling much pressure now.

Ok, go back to the topic. My topic of today’s speech is about nuclear power.

Since the first atomic bomb exploded in the United State in July, 1945, nuclear weapons have last for over sixty years. This young industry has been going through a really hard time among people support as well as concerns

When talking about nuclear, people always think up the two atomic bombs exploded in Japan in the Second World War, and people always can’t forget their huge explosive capacity(爆炸威力) and the residual (残留的) radioactive problem. Some deformities(畸形) caused in the nuclear radiation can inherit(遗传) to the next generation, and even cause some more serious disease or others.

Hearing the description above, perhaps some people may have the thought of quitting the application of nuclear completely. I am here to tell you that it is not necessary at all. Let’s recall our memory of the growth of nuclear energy. It provided us a lot, for example, some of the electricity we use is exactly produced in nuclear power plants. This is actually what I want to say, to make a judgment on something, we have to think from both the two side.

Let me take the First Industrial Revolution for example, the invention of steam engine change the driving force of the world for the first time. It make people move faster, it make the world smaller. However it still caused a lot of problems, such as the air pollution and energy waste. But can we say the First Industrial Revolution is a kind of retrogression (退步、退化)of human history?

I once saw a picture in a history book. In the picture, it described a noble way for entertainment among the upper class. That was going on a trip by steam boat. They seemed to be enjoying their trip very much. However, what was behind them was a grey sky that was completely polluted.

In my opinion, technology can be divided into two types, one is to discover new thing, and the other one is to transform old things into a better one. Actually, the development of humankind is just following this regulation, to find new and better the old.

The application of nuclear is also the same. At first, scientist study materials. By accident, they find ray, later they find some ray can cure cancer. Thus they applied this to medical research. Apparently, it helped save millions of patients. Besides, radiation can also help detect precious mental and lots of other things. What ’s more? Owning nuclear weapon is an important way to protect the legal right of a country. Of course, I don’t advocate using it in a war.

Finally I want to restate my opinion----when a thing is bad, make it good. When a thing is good, make it better. We can’t give up eating for fear of choking.

That ’s all

Thank you
