Spring Festival Gala on CCTV
For many years, the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV has been a very important part of our entertainments during Spring Festival. Most of Chinese people, especially the elder people are used to watching the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV after the family reunion dinner. To some extent, the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV has been a uniqueculture symbol of Spring Festival.
But during recent years, some people think that the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV should be cancelled. Firstly, they complain that the programs of the Spring Festival Gala are always fixed in form and boring. Secondly, they could not watch some other programs at the same time because CCTV has monopolized all the programs during that eve. In order to watch more programs and have more different choices, they require canceling the Spring Festival Gala on CCTV.
In my opinion, I agree with the first opinion. As a culture symbol of Spring Festival, the gala should not be cancelled. However, we should take all the people’s opinions into consideration. More different forms of art should be shown and more programs on different TV channel should be offered.

They claim that the Gala has become a tradition since it was started in the 1980s. What’s more, watching the show is an essential part of the festival for them.
However, people in increasing numbers choose not to watch the show. In recent years, the 4-hour-show is losing its appeal, especially to youngs. The Gala is boring to them. They argue that the stereotyped Gala should give way to diverse modern celebrations.
As for me, I still enjoy watching the show with my family, though the Gala is no longer popular with young people. In order to maintain the interest of the young generation, I think the organizer should develop a more exciting and more colorful program than the previous ones.
