Stevie's father became a forest warden. So Stevie's family moved into a tiny cottage on the edge of a thick forest. The previous owner who lived there before called Old Billy. He left a dog called Black Dan. It belonged to Old Billy before. Black Dan was the seventh. And Old Billy got rid of all of the other six dogs in the forest. One day when Stevie was going to sleep, he heard a sound like howling. The next day he heard it again. Black Dan howled back and ran out of the house quickly into the forest. Stevie followed Black Dan into the forest. Then he was surrounded by six Black Dans. He was so scared and tried to escape. He ran into an old mine but the dogs were still following. He kept running until he reached the very edge of a mine shaft. Just when he was falling down the hole, Black Dan sopped him and pulled him back. Then he got up and went out of the tunnel and got home with Black Dan guarding him all the way. Black Dan became the hero who had saved his life.
This story told us that dog often protects master from distress. It treats us so faithful, so we should take good care of the dog like Stevie. Do not exploit dog for yourself as Old Billy. A dog's life is very short for a people, and can only have one master, so please look after them well. Dog is human's best friend.
