At The Seaside 海边
by R. L. Stevenson
(1)
When I was down beside the sea
A wooden spade they gave to me
To dig the sandy shore.
(2)
The holes were empty like a cup
In every hole the sea camp up,
Till it could come no more.
What does Little Birdie Say?
by Alfred Tennyson, 1809-1892
(1)
What does little birdie say,
In her nest at peep of day?
Let me fly, says little birdie,
Mother, let me fly away,
Birdie, rest a little longer,
Till the little wings are stronger.
So she rests a little longer,
Then she flies away.
(2)
What does little baby say,
In her bed at peep of day?
Baby says, like little birdie,
Let me rise and fly away.
Baby, sleep a little longer,
Till the little limbs are stronger.
If she sleeps a little longer,
Baby too shall fly away.
A House of Cards
by C. G. Rossetti
(1)
A house of cards
Is neat and small;
Shake the table,
It must fall.
(2)
Find the court cards
One by one;
Raise it, roof it,
Now it's done;
Shake the table!
That's the fun.
The Cuckoo
~by Mother Goose's Nursery Rhyme
In April,
Come he will,
In May,
Sing all day,
In June,
Change his tune,
In July,
Prepare to fly,
In August,
Go he must!
O Sailor, Come Ashore
by C. G. Rossetti
(Part I)
O sailor, come ashore
What have you brought for me?
Red coral , white coral,
Coral from the sea.
(Part II)
I did not dig it from the ground
Nor pluck it from a tree;
Feeble insects made it
In the stormy sea.
也不是从树上摘的;
What does the Bee do?
by C. G. Rossetti, 1830-1894
What does the bee do?
Bring home honey.
And what does Father do?
Bring home money.
And what does Mother do?
Lay out the money.
And what does baby do?
Eat up the honey.
A Dinosaur for Christmas
A dinosaur for Christmas
is the only thing I need.
It doesn't matter if it's slow
or one that's built for speed.
A massive one, a tiny one
or one that's in between.
A dinosaur that's muddy brown
or bright and shiny green.
I don't care if it's big and tall
or really old and ugly.
I don't care if it's rough and tough or soft and cute and snuggly.
A spiny one will do the trick.
A scaly one is fine.
As long as it's a living, breathing dinosaur, and mine.
I promise if you bring me one
I'll never ask for more,
That's all I want for Christmas:
just one single dinosaur.
Christmas Dinner
Fruitcake.
Candied yams.
Mincemeat.
Roasted hams.
Eggnog.
Turkey legs.
Aspic.
Deviled eggs.
Gravy.
Dinner rolls.
Take some.
Pass the bowls.
Jell-o.
Christmas punch.
Cookies.
Munch, munch, munch.
Stuffing.
Gingerbread.
Whoops, I'm
overfed!
After
such a load,
feel like
I'll explode.
Guess I'm
gonna die,
so please
pass the pie.
Dear Santa, Here's My Christmas List
Dear Santa, here's my Christmas list. I hope you'll bring it all.
I've only asked for gifts my parents can't find at the mall.
I'd like to have a UFO,
with aliens inside,
and maybe a Tyrannosaurus Rex
that I could ride.
A ninety-nine foot robot
is a present I could use.
I'll also need a time machine,
and rocket-powered shoes.
Please bring a gentle genie
who will grant my every wish,
and don't forget a wizard's wand,
and, yes, a talking fish.
Of course, I'll need a unicorn,
and won't you please provide
a dragon, and a castle
in the English countryside.
Of course, the weight of all these things might cause your sleigh to crash.
If that's the case, dear Santa,
please feel free to just bring cash.
I Will Not Sit on Santa's Lap
I will not sit on Santa's lap.
You cannot make me sit on it,
and if you try I promise that
I'll throw a screaming fit on it.
I will not talk to Santa;
I am simply too afraid of him.
I'm not impressed by all the songs and movies that are made of him.
It really doesn't matter that he's generous and jolly too.
It doesn't matter if his chair
is decked with boughs of holly too.
It makes no difference that he's loved from here to Ethiopia.
I cannot sit with Santa.
I've got Santa Claustrophobia.
